Yet another piece of furniture has left my workshop. This romantic looking bookcase has been painted in the colour French Grey from Farrow and Ball and the wallpaper is Hummingbird from Cole and Son. If your interested it´s on display at Tapetorama in Malmö

I would like to ask you, my readers, follwers and others that pop in on my blog from time to time for a small favour.

I realise most of my readers are from Sweden but also from other countries that are non Swedish speaking.

SO the question is: What do you think of the blog being in english? Is it allright or would some of you read it more often if it was in Swedish? What do you prefer? Please leave a comment for me to improve and make the blog more interesting for you.

Report from Paris

So I am back from Paris. And I want to start out by stating the obvious - it was great! Coming from Sweden where the light is fading away quicker than you can change for winter gear it was a treat to feel the last of the summer on your face. Coming back wasn´t so much fun...Anyway.
Inspirational is an understatement for my trip. I want to tell you about so many things. Such as having drink at Hotel Costes which even has it´s own flower shop! Costes hotel is probably most famed for their music compilation of lounge music. Even though the trendiest crowd might have found another drinking spot it is still awesome. And I can tell you that the champagne tasted just as good as it was supposed to.

Besides walking around endless rows of jaw dropping architecture and shops filled with alluring items I went to different antique and flea markets which is one of my favourite ways to spend my time. I went to some of the best flea markets where designers and stylists from all over the world come to hunt for unique items hard to find elsewhere. Les Puces des Saint-Ouen is a gathering place for several different antique markets. The different markets have a different orientation. It was like coming to santa´s factory because you feel like you find everything you didn´t even know you wanted or that it existed!

Clearly you can find anything here. Stuffed giraffes or never used fashion accessories from the 20´s nothing is impossible to find here it seems.

Paris

I recieved my own copy of Paris Made by hand by Pia Jane Bijkerk as well as Tossed and Found by Wary Meyers. Two quite different books but equally interesting in their own ways. Bijkerks book I´m going to make use of this weekend when I go to Paris. I hope to find a few of the tucked away secret little shops she writes about. Bijkerk is a stylist and photographer in Paris and Amsterdam and shares her private black book of stores where she finds unique things she uses in her work.
The Wary Meyers book is really inspiring and clever. With this book they show how they come up with new and fresh ideas for things headed for the dumpster. In their hands anything really becomes something interesting and useful. Planters become ceiling lights and so on. So my recommendation is: buy both!

Chandelier Creative

The magazine OUT has named the most important Tastemakers of the year. Highly creative and inspiring people working in all kinds of fields and businesses. From chefs to designers with one thing in common. They are on the edge with their creativity. Chandelier Creative a creative agency based in New York. These pics are taken in their penthouse office. No boredom going on in that place. As a swede I was amused to see that they had used a fabric for their chairs by Josef Frank. (You´ll be able to find his designs if you follow the link) Their chesterfield sofa is upholstered in black latex. Anther swedish design is the black life size horse by Front Design. The doors are my favourite. Hand carved containing such things as tea pots and spiders. At the Noho office of his advertising agency Chandelier Creative, the staff has china and crystal for their lunches. There are fresh flowers on the purple piano. Each employee’s desk is different; they are found at flea markets and lacquered black for visual uniformity.

Day Home Sofa

Day Home presents a really nice and inspiring collection this fall. My favourite is this velvet sofa which has a high back and armrests. Made for those dark and cold days when you just want to snuggle upp with a book and a cup of tea. It´s reminescent of those old sofas you often see in English country homes that have armrests that fold out.

Cork flooring

For me this definitely is a different kind of sprucing up you floor. Using old wine corks is ingenious and cheap and it looks really genuine. Or why not copy the idea with old branches for your worktop?So go ahead and drink some more to collect corks for your own floor. Shower power

Did you ever think about how boring showers look? Well, now ClearShower has designed a brilliant shower head that looks like a flower. Made in acrylic and it measures 370 mm across which is really big! It mixes water and air which is supposed to feel like standing in soft rain. It comes in three models Flower, circle and square. So next time i renovate maybe this will be the coice.

Bookcase - looking all brand new

So I got this bookcase from my dear friends Kristian and Kalle a while back. It was quite beaten up when I saw it at first and I wasn´t at all sure what to do with it.

One of this season's big trends is tartans. I have always had a soft spot for Scottish tartans, something that started out with an old book I happened to come across at an auction once. So I went to Tapetorama and checked what they had in stock and came back with the perfect wallpaper from Lewis & Wood: Tartan Hunting Green. I matched that with a paint called Charleston Grey from Farrow & Ball. I chose to paint most of the bookcase apart from the back which I wallpapered, the sliding door which got to keep its grassy feel and the legs which I just sanded and oiled.

Voilà! I am proud to say that it is finally finished.

Cupcakes and The Magnolia Bakery

Last saturday my friend Maria had her birthday and she had difficulties in deciding what to serve. However she finally set on cupcakes. So I was called in as the helper with ideas and inspiration. My inspiration came from american cupcakes which always look very alluring with their frosting in various colours. So where to find inspiration if not from the Magnolia Bakery New York. Famous from movies and TV series such as The Devil wears Prada and Sex and The City.

Pricecomparison between me and them....

I know I´m not the only one producing furniture in bright colours. However pricewise I bring serious competition. This chest of drawers from Nella Vetrina retails for $7,456 and on sale for $6,500. I don´t even charge half of that for my pieces. So if you want to make a good deal you know where to go;-) I posted a picture of their chest and a similar from my collection just to compare.

Crystal lamp base

I have a real passion for lamps and lighting. To me it completes and enhances the entire interior. Without the proper lighting you are only halfway there according to my interior principles. I have a pair of crystal lamp bases that I have found on one of my flee market outings. The are German and from the 60´s. And I have found the perfect purple lampshades for them in dupion silk that really makes them pop. What do you think?

Black and white art deco dresser

I have recently changed my web site and am placing my news here instead. Therefore some of you might have seen this dresser already. However, this is an art deco dresser I painted in a pitch black car paint. So it´s really high gloss on the top and the sides. On the front there is the wall paper Hexagono from Tres Tintas in black and white. The handles are made out of lucite and on top of the drawer there is leaf silver. It´s a really nice dresser that is small and decorative and is easy to place. Why not with your drinks tray on top?

A russian former model and graphic designer that moved on to interior design is now creating the coolest tables ever! This is definitely my kind of thing. She makes plexiglass boxes and places, among other things, chandeliers inside them. They can be turned on at night so you get a different inpression at nighttime. An interior is the natural projection of the soul - Coco Chanel

Some time ago the movie Coco before Chanel premiered. And on September 18th it will premiere in Sweden. The movie is a biography about the infamous fashion icon Coco Chanel with Audrey Tatou as Coco. The fashion designer not only had an eye for fashion but also had an interior in her private residence that is ecclectic and timeless. One of the best biographies is written by Edmonde Charles- Roux, long time friend of Chanel.

DIY Pimp your lampshade

I was about to discard an old lampshade of mine when I got an idea. The idea was to cut a silhouette and place it inside the lampshade. Very easy and the effect is instant. And the silhouette is only visible when the light is on. I like to think its a rather nice idea that its only visible once lit and once turned off it´s just a plain lampshade which means you don´t get tired of it as quickly.

Embroidered shoes and Flower mirror

I found these shoes by coincidence last year but found them to be too much really. But the style and pattern is really unique. They are designed by Kaffe Fassett (famous for his knitting patterns) Anyway if you are interested in buying them they are available at Decor in Copenhagen. This is a great vintage store on Israels Plads. So instead of shoes I swapped them for a bunch of orange french antique pearl flowers. Originally made as grave ornamentations. But I used them as a decoration for a mirror. Please comment if you like.
